Filming Days

To make filming a lot easier, I previously arranged with each of my four models a date and time that we could both allocate to filming. I was very lucky to pick such reliable and devoted actresses to be apart of my media project, as I had no problems and they all worked alongside me the entire way.

This set up was exactly the same for every model I filmed, two lights either side of the chair and one behind my camera. However, I moved my third light from behind my camera extremely often in order to get the maximum out of my lights, and to hide as many shadows as possible.

Overall, it would appear that
prep of my models and the
overall set up for each shot
were equal. Filming took
around one hour alongside
setting up, which
equated to the same amount
of time. Filming was effective, successful and worry free thankfully down to storyboards and pre-planning.

Mise-En-Scene

Camera

Wide Shots and Extreme Close Ups are the two main types of shots that I will be incorporating within my music video. I am using the extreme close up for shots particularly on my models eyes and lips, as these are the most seductive and gripping aspects of any face.

In order to present my idea's of using slow, fast and rewinding shots, I have found that Giggs' Lock Doh' music video explores just this within the beginning. I want to use these varying shots to add depth and integument to my music video, as I believe shots like this are more appealing to my target audience, and they keep audiences interested.

Lighting

Although I am relying on my window's natural light, I am also using a three point lighting kit, to enhance my models and to eliminate any harsh shadows or unwanted markings.

I also believe that all of this strong bright lighting will enhance my models make-up, which is my overall focus point of my media music video.

Acting

I have deliberately not picked any models who have done any official acting, as I want each of their shots to appear natural.

For this shot of Molly, I simply positioned the camera and made the shot focussed and Molly did the rest. She has automatically tilted her head downwards. This movement and how she is looking directly into my camera's lens creates a natural seductive nature, which is not too overpowering.

Another example of natural seductive actions is when I arranged with one of my models, Grace, to run some test shots and pictures, I did not ask her to part her lips, she did this naturally and this is exactly what I want.

Makeup

Seeing as make-up is the main factor for my music video, I will be exploring the use and effect of models with and without various product.

As previously mentioned, each model will be filmed applying various factors and elements of make-up, meaning towards the end of the music video

Make-up is really important in any music video anyway as it has now become a convention for all actors or models used to be seen as having 'desirable' looks.

Props

Below are just some of the props that will be incorporated throughout my music video. I will be focussing heavily on the products used by my models, even including shots of just the products alone.

Setting

The picture to the left is a photo taken of the white wall I will be using for the background for the majority of my shots.

The picture to the right is the change
in background that I will be using
for my last shot of my music video,
as this is where all my models will
be together for the first time, all
without make-up on, standing next
to one another against the back-
ground.

Location

As previously mentioned, once my models have removed their make-up, I want to visually represent the uplifting nature of the process. Therefore, I am planning to use a colourful wallpaper and/or blind that I have in my own home. The initial images you see are the wallpaper version, which are not as varying with its colour, however are still effective. I already noticed when taking these photo's that the lighting is not brilliant on its own, therefore I will have to take this into consideration when physically filming, potentially filming on bright, sunny days in order to utilise the natural light instead of relying on my own.

I have a wallpaper version of this print as well as a blackout blind, which slightly differs in colour. My aim is to change my models background at the end of my music video, once they have removed all their make-up. This change of background will hopefully change the mood of my music video, allowing it to end on a high and joyful end.

This photo to the left is a picture of the plain white wall I will be using for the majority of my shots within my music video. The reason why I have go for the basic white background is to demonstrate purity and clarity within the video itself. I also feel like with this bright colour, it will pick up and enhance my models make-up and overall look, which is what I want to focus on.
However, my main reason and influence for picking this basic background is because within my research at the beginning of my entire project, I noticed that the most iconic video's that I researched have all got plain black or white backgrounds. These video's include Beyonce's 'Single Ladies', Drake's 'Take Care' and elements of Britney Spears' 'Toxic', where she is in her legendary diamond see-through outfit.

Equipment

When it comes to filming my project altogether, I am going to be using a Canon EOS 1300D camera, with two lenses depending on the shot I am trying to create. As seen, my idea has a lot of close up angles, particularly on my models eyes. In order to get the maximum amount of detail out of every extreme close up shot I take, I am going to be using my Canon EF Lens 50mm 1:1.18 (0.35m/1.1ft) lens. This lens has no zoom on it, meaning I can take large amounts of time getting the 'focus' perfect. For my wide shots, I will be using my other lens, the Canon EFS Lens 18-55mm, as it has large amounts of zoom available, enabling me to play around with how far or close I want my shot to be.

Moving onto the other equipment I will be using, I am going to be using a Zomei Z666 Professional Tripod in order to keep all of my filming level and steady. For my extreme close up shots, I plan to just simply move the tripod close to my models, meaning I will be able to continue my level filming no matter what shot I am attempting to complete.

In order to enhance my models and also my plain white turn colourful striped background, I will be setting up and using a three point lighting kit. Two will be staged either side of my model, and one slightly to the left of my shooting camera, as I have previously tested that these are the best positions to eliminate any shadows.

This is a close up of what the controls on the back of each light look like.

Storyboards

To help myself out when it comes to actually filming my music video, I have decided to plan a shot for each lyric and/or pause within the song itself. This way I have a really clear idea of what I want each shot to look like, in order to save time and hassle on my filming days!
